cheap flights:

(1) Book in advance to find cheap flights:

  •  For international flights, you should start looking to book your flight at least two

    months in advance.

  • For local flights, you should book your flight at least two weeks in advance.

  • However, if your schedule is flexible you can sometimes get a last minute deal on local flights. However, this is rare if you going to popular destinations like Orlando, Florida etc..

(2)  Book a flight that has at least one stop to find  cheap flights. Direct flights usually cost more.

(3) Fly on a weekday. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are the cheapest days to fly. Flights on weekends usually cost more.

(4) Compare the price of tickets on different travel web-sites, including airline web-sites. You can usually get a discount from the travel web-sites for using their services, but these are not always cheaper.

(5) Compare the price of booking your hotel and airline ticket at the same time, as oppose to booking them separately. You will usually get a discount for booking them at the same time. This also applies to booking a car rental at the same time.

(6) Purchase your airline tickets on Tuesday afternoon. This is usually when tickets are at their cheapest.

(7) Use frequent flyer miles to help offset the price of your tickets.

(8) If you have a flexible schedule, volunteer to be bumped from flights that are overbooked. Airlines will give you a voucher for round trip tickets, in addition to letting you fly on a later flight. This is more likely to happen around the holidays. Although these are technically not cheap flights, who can argue with free.

(9) Check if you can get a discount using a AAA card, or Military I.D. card. Students can sometimes get discounts on some travel web-sites.

(10) If you see a good price, grab it. Prices on airline tickets can change from one hour to the next.

(11) Fly before or after major holidays. Prices tend to be higher around this time. If you must fly around the holidays,  you should book your flight months in advance when the prices are cheaper.

(12) Book flights online. Most airlines charge a fee when you book your flight over the phone.

When planning a trip you have to do your homework. Although these tips cannot guarantee that you will find cheap flights, they might be able to save you some money.
